For years, FUTUROLOGY has been trying to outline a vision of the future for us. But what will the beauty industry look like in 50 years? Here’s a coherent vision of beauty, created for us by artists Ada Sokół and zulu kuki.
Let’s assume that a techno-optimistic vision of the world is coupled with development in other sectors that directly impact our well-being. Let’s assume a 50-year timeframe. What will change? Warsaw, beyond being the administrative capital of Poland, will become the green capital of a green country. Thanks to our newly acquired knowledge, we will begin to redesign the city. Smog will become a distant memory. If, for some reason, we experience a temporary decline in air quality, we will have the right tools to cope. Biodiversity based on native plant species will give the metropolitan area a rhythm in which architecture doesn’t fight nature; it doesn’t try to subjugate it. The key to moving forward will be taking a few steps back. We will learn to coexist in harmony with what we have tried to forcefully improve, change, and adapt to unrealistic demands based on myopia.
According to Y.N. Harari in his bestseller “Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow,” the pursuit of immortality will be our species goal once we have overcome the problems of civilization. However, let’s think of immortality not as the desire not to die, but as the longest, most happy life possible. Biohacking in a conscious society will change its conceptual meaning when physical and mental health becomes the norm. The ability to design nanotechnological devices will not only allow for the care and enhancement of the body but will also be so aesthetically pleasing that there will be no question of the cyborgization of dystopian sci-fi movies.
In this neo-human version, beauty need not be fleeting. The treatments used today will become a thing of the past, giving way to so-called “beauty devices.” One such device will be biointegrable Dermojewelry: nanotechnology-based patches. Applied to the skin, they monitor indicators such as hydration, pH, temperature, and oxidative stress thanks to sensors, and respond based on the data, releasing active ingredients into the skin. This small device will also use electrical stimulation to improve circulation and collagen production. This self-acting beauty routine for the second half of the 21st century. AirGem and Serenitysounds, on the other hand, are jewelry-like devices that, even without their specialized functions, could serve as a sophisticated accessory. The former is a titanium, silver-plated nosepiece. The goal: efficient breathing. The biocompatible material is responsible for functions such as eliminating bacteria and viruses, absorbing CO2, and neutralizing allergens in the inhaled air. It also measures airflow and optimizes nostril flaring. Serenitysounds is a type of earring with minerals that both fills the auricle and envelops it externally. Its primary purpose is to neutralize ambient noise when it exceeds the safe limit (85 dB). Furthermore, the device is designed to have a soothing effect. In stressful situations involving sound, the earring has a calming effect while simultaneously delivering personalized sounds to help us remain calm.
